This deep dive into the 21st throws up interesting questions that is for sure. Two men from the same canton served in the same units from 1794. One dies of fever in Bruges Nov 1804 and the other retires in Nov 1811. Vagaries of service. The 1811 bloke was lucky to escape Russia.

I had a fellow transferred to 66th Ligne in 1804 from 21st. Ended up in the Junot's Army of Portugal. So 3rd or 4th Btn. This places him in Travot's Div. He was not returned in Cintra but was POW until after 1st abdication. As you can imagine a whole warren of rabbit holes in that.
