So lucky today to visit Qursayah Island on the Nile with @landscaperesearch.bsky.social - farming and fishing communities just a stone's throw from the modern city - and to support verynile.org up-cycling programme of plastic waste from the river plus their delicious community cafe

Day 3 of the @landscaperesearch.bsky.social critical field study was to think about Cairo as a blue city by being on the Nile and visiting one of the islands in the river.

Today started in medieval Islamic Cairo, which dates from 10th century. After walking thru the impressive Bab al-Futah gate, we visited the beautiful Al-Hakim Mosque (10th c with 13th c minarets).

My 2nd day in Cairo, but the 1st with the Landscape Research Group tour that I’ll be joining for 5 days.

Our first stop was the Mazhar Botanic garden in Giza mazharbotanicgarden.com/about
It has both Egyptian plants & foreign ones that work in the climate.
