This is really welcome news, but it does not take away the need for urgent action to clear up the site - we need action before the site floods. The government must release funds to allow for a clean up and if some of that can be recouped later, so much the better.

Brexit has blown a "black hole of [up to] £90 billion a year in the public finances" the party says. Even under lower estimates the hit is ~£65bn

What's weird about this enquiry is that it seems to be telling us what we know already at great lengths + expense but not answering any of the questions we don't know the answer to.

Really good news going into the weekend - thanks to all the campaigners who worked so hard to push for this to happen. Hopefully a first step towards progress on getting it cleared away

Anyone want to take bets on whether it opens before my husband starts working in Milton Keynes in August 😫
The plans also envisage as many as 5 trains per hour, which could each be extended to 5 carriages. However, no start date has yet been announced for Oxford–Milton Keynes service. Disputes over staffing, first reported by the Clarion in September, finally hit the national press this week.
We are sorry to announce that the 08.44 to Milton Keynes has been delayed by several months
Oxford’s new railway line to Milton Keynes has been complete for almost a year – but there’s no sign of passenger services beginning. On 20 October 2024, railway track company Network Rail officially...

The contaminated waste piled high in a field near Kidlington is now washing into River Cherwell. In the last 48 hours, the water level has risen 4+ feet and is lapping against the illegal dump.

We stand on the edge of an environmental disaster. We need urgent action from the Environment Agency.

The Kidlington fly-tipping mountain has been aired at Prime Minister’s Questions. Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey called it “a shocking environmental emergency”, blaming “organised criminal gangs”, and asked Keir Starmer to order an immediate cleanup.

Really pleased that the underpass is still on the table - this is by far the most accessible option and will allow movement into and around Bicester. But having accepted it as the best option, the government needs to step up and fund it - not leave local residents with a less accessible route
An underpass will only be provided at Bicester’s London Road railway crossing if “third-party funding contributions” can be found, say East West Rail. The level crossing is set to be closed when more trains start running, and local campaigners have petitioned against a footbridge replacement.

Please sign to call on the government to fund and mandate the Environment Agency to clean up the illegal landfill outside Kidlington
Along with everyone else, I am shocked by the horrendous dumping of tonnes of illegal waste by criminals that now threatens to pollute the River Cherwell.

⏰ Time is ticking. Please sign this petition to let the Government and Environment Agency know they need to act now and clean it up.

Spoke to Channel 5 news and Sky about the illegal landfill just outside Kidlington. The cost of cleanup will be enormous and the waste is already visibly slipping into the Cherwell. We need government funding now for a clean up before this becomes an environmental catastrophe.

So to summarise: Labour's most likely replacement for a Prime Minister with no clear vision whose government's is actively working against itself is a Health Secretary with no clear vision whose initiatives often work against one another. Great. Brilliant. No way this will end badly.
