Interesting talk by Nick Ryan today about the benefits (or lack thereof) of carbon offsetting firms in China partially due to selection into the offsets program by higher growth firms.

This is just a sliver of what the the US Administration’s vast and unprecedented attack on our research system has stolen from us.

Americans who will suffer from horrible disease, and die, who didn’t need to. Conservative and Liberal Americans.

The Damage Done: @marianneguenot.bsky.social tells the story of clinical trials derailed by the administration's reckless science policy, across kidney disease, HIV, Alzheimer's disease, and cancer. Years of work and money thrown away, at times just short of a cure.

@thetahat.bsky.social gave an excellent talk at Tufts today using a field experiment to show the effects of exposure to a neighborhood on likelihood of choosing to work there. Super interesting to think about how this could affect mobility and job matching.

Great talk by @alanger.bsky.social at Tufts this past week. She taught me a lot about the unintended consequences of incentives to get utilities to switch away from coal.

This is #TheDoubleTax. Might I also add that Black women in the South are likely experiencing the brunt of Black women "leaving" the labor force because they are significantly overrepresented in the federal workforce.

Having a great time at the Advances with Field Experiments (AFE) conference so far. They projected Zoe Cullen’s keynote above the bar last night: wise words that apply to field experiments and choices at the bar “less is more sometimes”

Other highlights were Bo Cowgill won the best paper award.

You know a novel is going to be good when it opens up with “hello nerds: yes I know about inflation, please shut up about it”
A picture of an authors note that says “this novel is set in the near future. However, to minimize any need for mental arithmetic on the readers part, sums of money are presented as if the Euro has retained its 2022 value with no inflation. This I the sole respect in which the story derive from how things will actually unfold”

I spend a good amount of time with my university's academic catalog. There is not a single university in the country, probably not a single department, that would meet TAMU president's directive that "course content must match catalog descriptions for each and every one of our course sections."
