I certainly had no sense in 1986 that I'd need this, down the road. But I read it anyway, just in case. And now? Well, what do you know, we seem to find ourselves in a fix where this sort of essay turns out to be relevant, and useful

I presume my remembering this sort of thing is why a big group of people would prefer that I had not had the opportunity to study the liberal arts and sciences at a public university. I got excellent grades, because I did the reading. Anyway, I remembered this. Always do the reading.
