My office has produced a brief report that addresses the tax burden myths that are driving the current push to halt the Preschool for All revenue collection. Credit goes to my Senior Policy Advisor and Chief Economist Dr. Erik Dean. Bottom line: taxes are not driving people out of the county 🧵

Almost 7,000 emails sent by hundreds of Oregonians (not just from Portland!!) to Tina Kotek & state & local government since last night. Can we keep this going? We are hearing reports that the antidemocratic legislative fuckery will continue bright & early Monday 😤 actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...
Tell Governor Kotek and the Legislature: Hands off Preschool for All!
There is an existential threat to Preschool for All developing in Salem, and unless we can rally enough community outrage and response, the program could be effectively killed as soon as this week. ...

There are a million ways to question how our local government spends money but the Preschool for All fund a) does not have a billion dollars & b) is needed to fulfill the promise to voters of fully universal preschool by 2030. Throwing shade at a necessary public good < asking why police need drones

100% agree on kicker, but please do NOT advocate to release preschool for all funding. It not only goes to children, but also to train childcare providers who will make a living wage. Portland public schools has been a shithole since 2001 (at least in SE PDX). I know because I’m a survivor of it.

i like robert (a lot!) but the preschool fund, which doesn't have a billion in it, would sooner be raided for the county sheriff's office than ever go anywhere useful. that's why the general fund can't be trusted
