I need a phrase for the feeling you get as a specfic author when you write an allegorical book about the current fascist regime and its cruelty, and you wake up the morning after you finish to realize that as far as you went, you didn't go far enough.

We are entering a dark age, if a dark age is when people forget how to write. If you are a writer, you are practitioner of what is becoming a lost art. Every time you say, "My story isn't important. It's not good. I don't have to learn how to make it better" the world gets darker. Hold your head up.

I keep getting spam from Gavin Newsom trying to sell me his book (unsubbing hasn't taken yet). This is dead-standard political mass email, and for a ghostwritten book, but I can't help but read it as, "Oh, look, another author desperate to be read, just like me!"
