Excuse the super hacked together prototype (thus the hexagons in the first image) but using a super exaggerated convolution bloom with a star shaped texture/kernel gets you most of the way there

I smashed out this fun fire VFX prototype today. It was a fun, little Tech-art exercise.

It's all 2D and uses a vertex offset in the shader to give it the illusion of depth when rotating around the sphere.

Outside of games I like:
Music (I have a degree in classical guitar, I love playing all styles and I also compose)
Photography (35mm film and Digital)
Cooking (Currently making a lot of Polish and Japanese)
MTG (Former standard, now casually with my partner and friends. I enjoy Mono-red the most)

I also have two cats, Ezra and Mimir. Ezra is 11 years old and so very Ginger and Mimir turned 1 yesterday and is so very fluffy.

Fun-fact about me I apparently exist (and there is a chance I might be canon) in the Star Trek universe as the L android (thanks to the fantastic work of @sassifrasi.bsky.social and many other wonderful folks I worked with at MK).
