Statement by the Long Beach Latino Democratic Club on U.S. Supreme Court Ruling. The Long Beach Latino Democratic Club condemns in the strongest possible terms yesterday’s devastating United States Supreme Court ruling in Vasquez Perdomo v. Noem. The 6-3 Republican court majority has, in essence, given Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) permission to engage in racial, linguistic and occupational profiling. Though this is not the final ruling, the Supreme Court's action and recent history strongly suggests in will further erode constitutional protections. This decision puts all Latino families - citizens, permanent residents, and undocumented alike, at risk for ICE harassment, detention, or deportation. We are under threat not for any wrongdoing, but for the color of our skin, our language and for who we are.
