The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is just one day, but solidarity with all colonized peoples must happen every day.

Amplify the calls for justice, reparations, Land Back and sovereignty from Indigenous communities. There is no truth and reconciliation without action.

Non-Indigenous people who live in so-called Canada benefit from this colonial system—and we have a responsibility every day, to stand in solidarity and dismantle the genocidal legacy of this country.

We must amplify the calls to action that Indigenous communities have put out.

Actions you can take now:

- Donate one day’s pay—or as much as you can manage—to Indigenous-led groups, organizations, and frontline communities.
- Learn about the impacts of the Indian Residential School system, and read the 94 calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
- Demand that the federal government implement all calls to action from the TRC and the MMIWG2S enquiry immediately.
- Call and email elected officials to demand an end to fossil fuel expansion and to respect Free, Prior, and Informed Consent.
- Actively amplify and learn from the voices of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities. Do not ask them to educate you.
- Join Indigenous-led events near you today.
- Wear an orange shirt as a symbol of your support for reconciliation and as a reminder that every child matters.

From Wet’suwet’en to Grassy Narrows, communities are still fighting for their rights and sovereignty against fossil fuel expansion, mining, old-growth logging, and governments that do nothing but pay lip service.

In Canada, Indigenous people are 10 times more likely to get shot by police than non-Indigenous people. This is by design.

The RCMP was created by the state to enforce violence and control over Indigenous peoples and their lands.

In 2024, 15 Indigenous people were killed at the hands of police. Deaths from interactions with police or under their custody, are heavily underreported by mainstream media, contributing to the settler complicity that ignores colonial violence happening every day.

I am on CPPD, and I make less than half minimum wage, much less. My spouse works, but it isn't enough to cover basic necessities, so I have to rely on family to help cover things. Our house is falling apart; it needs many repairs that we can't afford. 😪🙃
