to have some fucknut with scanning software say, "Yeah, no" to that like they've watched too many episodes of Star Trek BUT DIDN'T TAKE ANYTHING OF USE FROM THEM AT ALL and act all lofty with a bunch of *my work*??

Sigh...

I can't stop these fuckers. You can. Dry them out. SUPPORT ACTUAL WRITERS.

I know the people behind these sites don't care how demoralizing it is to writers, and I damn well hope they don't think we're somehow flattered by it. Every book I write, I leave some of my spleen in it. There's muscle & gristle & brain matter in there. The whole package *matters* to me. And then

And I'm not saying there's 10,000 people downloading my work. Even if there's only 1 hitting 1 of these useless sites, that's 1 person looking me dead in the face telling me I don't matter. That's 1 whose legitimate purchase might have been the only positive thing a writer's whole week. 1 matters.

Should be inured to it by now but the breadth & depth of that "archive" of stolen content actually made me physically ill. 5 long pages worth of my work across 20 years. The cruelty is beyond my comprehension. *Every* artist I know, save for folks I could count on one hand, is struggling right now.

Dear god, every time something about piracy comes up, I just want to scream at the person/group who's doing it. Because it's not like the average author is swimming in money. And for a lot of us, the money earned can be the difference between getting groceries/meds/whatever other necessities or not.

Was thinking the exact same thing; that soul-tearing wanting to quit moment. Every single one another cut, adding to a thousand scars. Each of those punches leaves a bruise and it takes additional energy to get back up again. But I will always love your work & believe in it more than any setback. 🖤

Seeing that on a day when I've no idea how my current medical & car repair bills are going to get paid (I'm awaiting several payouts for completed writing work with no idea when those will land) is just... Mood is pretty devastated right now, if I'm being honest.💔 Check out my Etsy shop on my feed?

DEAD RINGER (City Owl Press) isn't horror, it's Gaslamp Fantasy Romance with ghosts, murder mystery + labor rights and is far lighter/sweeter in tone than my usual Gaslamp Fantasy, so I'm not sure how to pitch it, but if you do curate any 'lighter fare' list, it'll release Fall 26, exact month TBA 🖤
