Most of my other good intentions have been thwarted by being under the weather, but I'm giving week notes another go this year: lee-batchelor.medium.com/weeknotes-05...

Not a fan of the dark evenings, but it does make for a nice cosy feeling workspace at the end of the day.

Made a friend on a snowy lunchtime wander to the shops.

Despite what my brain was telling me last night, I'm not back at work until tomorrow so a snowy day of de-Christmassing and trying to shake off the inevitable post-festive cold

I've still got some big hitters to catch, but 2025 felt like a good year at the cinema. Here are some of my movie highlights.

My enthusiasm for the gym didn't quite overcome my reluctance to scrape ice off the car in the snow this morning, so waiting for the sun to swing round and do the job for me

Pouting my way into 2026 trying not to feel hungover. Happy New Year! 🎉

So lucky to be ending the gig year on a high with @ben-watt.bsky.social and @traceythorn.bsky.social at the Moth Club. Such a great show, and nice to hear a couple of my favourite festive songs from Tracey's Tinsel and Lights album which is always on heavy rotation this time of year.

RIP Martin Parr. One of the best, able to fill an image with character, pathos and humour, in a style uniquely and immediately identifiable as his. Last year's "I am Martin Parr" documentary is up on iPlayer and well worth an hour or so of your time.

Asylum seekers, housed in hotels in Manchester, are reaching out in their own words to address the concerns of the local community.

Please take a minute to read their letter, & share it with the people in your life who need to hear the truth about the people they are protesting.

Seem to have picked up another bloody cold from somewhere but Self Esteem at the Brighton Centre tonight was the best medicine.

The BBC are accidentally running the subtitles to Mrs Marple over the Mercury Prize, and it’s rather wonderful. A few of lines could plausibly have been written by Jarvis.

A solid triple bill today at #lff - Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein; A Useful Ghost about a haunted vacuum and so much more; and queer French coming of age movie Enzo 🎬

Kicking off #LFF today with Wake Up Dead Man and Twinless. Really enjoyed both, Wake Up Dead Man especially worth catching with a crowd on the big screen.

This was a hell of a moment at @sigurros.com at the Royal Albert Hall tonight. The band, the orchestra, the choir, the organ... goosebumps
They used the pipe organ!!

Seem to have picked up freshers flu from dropping my nephew at uni at the weekend, but without any of the fun of freshers which doesn't seem like a particular fair deal 🤧
