Sloppy defensive play didn't help, but the Devils aren't going to win scoring just one goal. Too tentative offensively...no crispness in passing or decision-making. Maybe someone should nudge Fitz and see if he's still awake; this team isn't making the playoffs without a couple of moves.

You wrote him off far earlier than I did. You were right then. You are right now. I'd rather have Crookshank or Legare here now instead of Glendening.

Bench him. After a few games on the pines, he might well be willing to accept a trade to a team that's on his 10-team "no trade" list. But he's going to also cost the Devils a #1 to move him, because no one wants Palat in his present form, at that present salary,.

I'm starting an "over/under" on the number of times Dano says "they've just gotta find a way" in each game (starting at 3.5 for tonight's game in Columbus) and use that to fully fund a Go-Fund-Me that buys out Palat's contract.

Keefe isn't blameless here...whose idea is it, anyway, to put Palat on a line with Jack and Bratt? But it does appear that Fitzgerald is unwilling to admit he was wrong about certain players. Even if they "overpay" in a trade or two to clean out the salary cap issues, they can't stay stagnant.

This team is showing no spirit, no fight, no urgency...and that's all coming from the front office's reluctance to change the dynamics. The season is going to effectively be over by the Olympic recess unless Fitz (a) does something major, or (b) is replaced by someone else who does something major.

There is no urgency, no anger, no spirited defiance...without a shock to the system of some type (trade/release/firing), this season will continue to spiral down the drain. I've been a Keefe fan before the last four weeks, but I'm not convinced now that he shouldn't be fired along with Fitz.

Contending teams don't hand starting positions to unproven minor leaguers. That's what middling teams do...they aren't worried about contention as much as building a roster. That's a big difference from what the Mets need to be doing.

In fairness, Glendening isn't going to score a goal this season. I would not be surprised, though, if Holtz wins the goal scoring race against Cotter...and that's downright sickening.
