From a colonial modernity lens, we are conditioned not to question whether or not progress is good. Progress has become synonymous with “innovation” and we should probably start thinking about these terms more critically.

A reminder that the provincial government spent $1.2 Billion on a tax cut in the same year they claim they cannot afford to pay for the supports needed to sustain our public education system. This is why teachers are striking and I don't blame them. #Abpoli #Ableg www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Jagged Little Pill - Alanis Morissette (1995):

The third studio album from Morissette, the album had six singles including the hits You Oughta Know, Ironic and Hand in My Pocket. It hit #1 in 14 countries and sold 33 million copies. It won five Grammys and five Junos.
The photo is the cover art for an album titled "Jagged Little Pill" by Alanis Morissette. The image features a stylized, colorful portrait of a person with long, dark hair, overlaid with abstract, vibrant hues of green, pink, and purple. The name "Alanis Morissette" is prominently displayed in the center in bold white letters, while the album title "jagged little pill" is written in smaller text at the bottom. The background has a textured, almost halftone effect, adding a dynamic and artistic feel to the design.

I just shared a piece of writing in calibri. What does that say about me?

I have two kids in the public system, and if there is a strike my life will be negatively impacted. But I stand with the teachers, they should get what they asked for.

Or the annual salary needed to buy a home in Calgary ($156,000)
www.calgary.ca/communities/... A 12% raise over four years doesn't appear to reflect the high cost of living in Alberta cities. Keep in mind these figures are for shelter costs alone! #ABlef #abpoli

The province has promised the #ATA a 12% raise over 4 years however negotiations have broken down.

Collective agreements show the annual salary for a new full time teacher starts at $61,788 www.cbc.ca/news/canada/.... Compared to the salary needed for average rent in Calgary ($84,000)🧵

Unfortunately the land transfer has not happened yet, things at the City are pretty much at a stand still.

On January 25, 2022, a NoM was tabled to initiate the process that would facilitate a transfer of land, to the IGP Society, at the confluence of the Elbow and Bow rivers for the development of an Indigenous Gathering Place. On February 15, 2022, the Notice of Motion was passed unanimously.
leestevens1.bsky.social
A bit of background: On May 26, 2021, the City of Calgary and the IGP Society entered a Memorandum of Understanding where the parties committed to working together towards the establishment of an Indigenous Gathering Place. This commitment was validated through a smudge and a pipe ceremony.

The ADAP guide shares a few details on earned income exemptions (the amount of income that can be earned before benefits are clawed back). The amount for ADAP clients is $350 however people on IS without disabilities can only earn $230 before benefits are clawed back 🤔 www.alberta.ca/system/files...

The GoA has disincentivized the transition back to AISH in December 2027 by requiring that they provide a new disability assistance medical report. Those with "exceptional cases" will not have to do this. Here is the link to the public survey open until Sept 12 www.alberta.ca/alberta-disa...

All AISH clients will be transitioned to ADAP on July 1 2026, and will receive the AISH rate until Dec, 2027. Comparing rates to Calgary's poverty line shows ADAP benefits do not reach even the deep poverty line threshold.
