Controversial from the POV of should-these-places-be-preserved, I mean.

Disgraceful! We have similar place in Rhode Island (though not a plantation) but they educate people abt slave trade through tours, exhibits, visiting lecturers, creative writers residency, annual Frederick Douglass event, Juneteenth healing ceremony & celebration. Still controversial but not hidden

Also, if you didn't know, there was also a virtual protest for anyone who couldn't be there in person. I hope that continues to happen!

I really loved it too. I think the (understandable) media spectacle of the hidden apartment didn't uncover what the film's messaging was - that art and life can be inextricable, that artists are not frivolous but intentional as evidenced by the tape art projects the installation seemed to support.
