In Dryden, 20,000 pounds of mercury were dumped into the English-Wabigoon River system in the 1960s, causing symptoms of mercury poisoning in more than 90% of the Grassy Narrows population.

Even today, effluent continues to be discharged – increasing the formation of the most toxic form of mercury.
