There were harrumphs and hard stares and they left quickly and loudly after we sat down. We weren’t even aware until the hard stares happened. TBF Italy this last week has been wall to wall Free Palestine protests so I think they probably already felt a little embattled.

Not bad at all. Only an hour from Taranto to Matera. But you need to drop the car in the outskirts of Matera. Only residents can bring cars inside. Which is fine although tbh it’d be better if nobody could.

This evening we find ourselves in our 2nd to last stop. We’ve stepped briefly out of #puglia into #basilicata to visit the Città dei Sassi (city of stones) Matera where we are passing the night in a cave. Back in tourist central, still definitely worth a visit.

Spent the afternoon walking around the old town of Taranto, a beautiful but neglected town with a horrible recent history of corporate greed and corruption that has been responsible for thousands of cancers and deaths (see link below for all the gory details) . Pretty place though.

A quick stop this afternoon in #SanMarzanoVini to pick up just a couple of bottles of Primitivo Di Manduria and Negroamaro which I have absolutely fallen in lust with on this holiday. Shipping to Ireland just about makes sense compared to the extra luggage charges the Airline would charge. #Puglia
