'A team of musicologists has unearthed the printed score of a previously unknown Purcell song, as well as the original manuscript for various keyboard compositions, partly in the composer’s own hand – the first Purcell autograph to be found for more than 30 years.' 1/3

Oh, excellent! I wanted to see The Weir here and it never worked out. Museum-ing and book shopping on Friday, The Divine Comedy on Saturday, then back Sunday on my end.

Some independent Irish bookshops you can support rather than Amazon. And most offer free postage in 🇮🇪too.

Can’t decide what to buy on Prime Day?

Try: absolutely nothing, and then go support indie bookstores instead 📚

Of course I will miss this by a day, but it sounds great.

Not a fish and chips fan myself...we have plenty here, anyway. But there are some excellent speciality bookshops I hit whenever I'm in town.

Headed over to London at the weekend, but great to see the Irish list.

I think much of the 'research' was conducted over drinks.

Elsewhere she has 'quiet' reading rooms and 'louder' reading rooms, one for intense work and the other for funsies or more collaborative sessions. Honestly, it's pretty great.

Smaller child has, entirely unprompted, been drawing up her own plans for what she thinks should be in the (eventual) library in Parnell Square. It’s eminently sensible.

When we first moved here from the US, it wasn't only that, but that even many car accident deaths were reported in the press - something else people just shrug at there.

Yeah, it's pretty messy here...the (mostly Catholic church) still running most schools also makes most secondary schools single sex, which may be all you get offered, place-wise, even if you actively don't want it. You can opt your kid out of religion, but it's still everywhere.

Very much this. If we could also move the needle on getting religion out of schools, it would be even better, but it is definitely possible to make progress here.

Ireland gets lots of things wrong (housing costs/shortages, childcare costs/shortages), but sometimes it gets things right such as the BAI, free HRT, free contraceptives for women, trans people and non-binary people up to the age of 35, minimum wage etc

This is an excellent piece - it really is. It reminded me too that I've been hoarding information on the seasonal migration of Irish hop pickers into England in the 19th century that I really need to write up ...

It's easy to love fresh hop beer season in the Pacific Northwest, but a bit harder to see the labor and communities that make it happen.

For @vinepair.com, I offer a taste of the multicultural history that roots PNW hops, and the mistakes we can't seem to learn from.

Fancy owning a Dublin 1740s palace? Henrietta St was built as a series of Georgian great houses in the city centre. Some beautiful stucco ceilings remain & a lot of space! It’s almost 1km2 & just €1.75m - you might need to spend quite a bit more to restore it. It’s being used in lots of movies.
