A SPOOKY sighting has fuelled rumours the London Underground is haunted. A 'distressed' 15-year-old boy reported seeing a ghost on the Metropolitan line near King's Cross in December 2023.
The unusual revelation came to light following a Freedom of Information (FOI) request seeking records of any ghostly goings-on across the capital's transport network since January 2022.
In response to being asked to list all reports of 'paranormal activity' on the Tube, DLR, London Overground, Elizabeth Line and Tram locations officers searched incident reports for keywords ghost, paranormal, spirit, apparition, ghoul, phantom, poltergeist and banshee.
But they claim most of the 156 results merely referred to someone being in 'good spirits' - meaning they'd had a touch too much alcohol. TfL also found more than 1,000 cases in the customer contact centre database — but said many referred to phantom Oyster card charges.
The were no ghost sightings at the Aldgate East station — the area where Jack the Ripper murdered five women in 1888. TfL also said there were no spooky goings-on on Trams, DLR, the Elizabeth line or London Overground.
