I'm also fully aware that the real objective here is to get into a shooting fight with Venezuela so the DOJ can try to argue that the Alien Enemies Act does actually apply so that Stephen Miller can fully implement his ethnic cleansing of the US. 11/

It's all just let's sink a bunch of boats & kill a bunch of people. I'm sure in addition to the OLC memo someone also drafted a presidential finding of fact to justify this, but you normally don't just start a war to start a war. You start a war to achieve one or more strategic objectives. 10/

My oversimplification of planning aside, I don't think anyone on Trump's natsec team, & I know Trump can't, delineate whatever the objectives or effects are here. I have yet to read or hear anyone describe anything that would be a center of gravity that we have to target. 9/

Playing whack-a-mole with a bunch of small speed boats isn't really removing something essential to the Maduro government. Nor does it really get anyone to even a theater strategic objective. Sure, there's a tactical effect - about 80 people are dead & 6 or 8 speedboats sunk - but that's it. 8/
