BIG NEWS! I was lucky enough to have this image selected as WINNER of Canadian Geographic Wildlife Photographer of the Year - ‘Things with Wings’ category for 2025! I’ve always considered myself a wildlife photographer, so I feel a little like Happy Gilmore having a macro image as my first win 😂🏌️‍♀️

MONGOLIA: This is the manul or Pallas's cat. This stunning lady has four kittens tucked away in that crack behind her.
Visit www.steppewildlife.org for more info and to support the biologists that are fighting to conserve them. #mammals #manul #cat

This might be one of my favourite creatures on earth: the aye-aye or long-fingered lemur. They're nocturnal and unfortunately under threat due to habitat loss and some locals killing them due to believing they're harbingers of evil. #addMam #Madagascar

I was trying to get a nice portrait of the family, but this happened ... 🫣😂 #birds

I had the BEST day today, this is the first time I've seen a calliope hummingbird in the wild without a hummingbird feeder attracting them. It was amazing. They're BC's tiniest bird weighing 2-3 grams! STOKED. #birds

Kind of forgot about Bluesky … here’s a shot I felt privileged to get because these guys aren’t typically found in our area - must have been heading back from the winter irruption party! #birds #greatgreyowl

Last autumn a friend and I stumbled across this scene, a crab spider with a pretty decent sized bee in its clutches. Stoked with how the shot turned out. Focus stack of 25 images, OM-1 + 60mm macro + cygnustech diffuser. #photography #macrophotography

This is an old one of a barred owl perched on a mossy log complete with licorice ferns from BC, Canada #birds #photography #owl

We had a rare visit from this stunning and very sleepy boreal owl the other day. Only my second ever sighting, but man was it a ripper! #photography #bird #owl #addBirder

Red-legged grasshopper from last autumn covered in dew. Right now their eggs are a couple of cm deep in the soil lying dormant, when it warms up they will develop and hatch, the nymphs come to the surface and continue to grow into adults after a few molts #canada #macrophotography #photography

I have a really long story that goes with tomtits, too long for here unfortunately. But this is a ngirungiru or south island tomtit, unbiasedly the cutest bird in the world from my home country of Aotearoa New Zealand. I love him. #newzealand #aotearoa #nzbirds #tomtit #ngirungiru #bird #photography

This is a cuckoo wasp and found right in my front yard on my wildflower wall. I honestly thought I had to travel to tropical climates to photograph insects as colourful as this, but Canada delivered 🍁🐝 #canada #photography #macrophotography #colourful

Photograph of NZ Kererū perched on branch, in a very obliging way. Pic taken in my DSLR days in local forest, in Tāmaki Makaurau.

One of my last shoots from last year before heading off on the winter travel adventures: an epic night of northern lights right at home! I felt hungover the next morning 😂 #photography #northernlights #nightsky #landscape #canada

Ok, this is the last of the 'new app better fill up my feed so people are interested' post rampage 😂 This is just your ordinary north american raccoon in an extraordinary location & pose. He ran up a tree after some rain and watched me from beyond the mossy branches. Highlight moment!

Anybody that knows me or has followed me elsewhere probably knows this image, it's one of my all-time favourites. A male grizzly bear in a cloud of his own huffed breath in the chill of the early morning.

This female Malagasy giant chameleon was a tricky one to find, she blends in super well with the leaves. The males seemed to be everywhere and obvious but the females hardly ever got spotted. I have no doubt they were close by most of the time, just using their excellent camo to evade our glances.

Another beauty from Madagascar, the two-toned soft-nosed chameleon is a bit of a mouthful but a stunning subject. Only discovered/described in 2018 by science, it was exciting to come away with a shot of this handsome wee fella.

One of my favourite images, this northern pygmy-owl was hunting and allowed me to move to the side a bit so I could catch him backlit. Made in BC, Canada

This is a red-fronted brown lemur from the Tsingy de Bemaraha area of Madagascar. The lemurs were so thirsty that when they heard my water bottle crinkle against a tree they came hurtling down from the treetops to get a drink. I was feeding them the water out of the shell you can see beside him.
