If they don't fit the narrative, they don't get a prominent platform. There may be a question about asking ecologists about climate, since that's not their field. They might say the climate crisis isn't as pressing as biodiversity loss, which isn't the story. Lyle Lewis @race2extinct.bsky.social

All our combined efforts at conservation have only held overshoot day to a small increase, because we are on a treadmill driven by population growth.

Our species went into overshoot of Earth's carrying capacity in 1971.

You're right about demographic momentum. Reproductive freedom would benefit both people and planet by reducing the 121 million unintended pregnancies occurring each year. This would also reduce the 48 million annual increase in births resulting from those unintended conceptions. Win, win.

From The Guardian article: "All the environmental crises were worsening as the global population grows and required more food and energy." How could it be otherwise? More people means more demand.

Our common ground might be to advocate for universal reproductive freedom with the full range of contraceptive health services, including perinatal care. Full reproductive freedom doesn't exist anywhere: restrictions on right to not procreate range from inconvenient to violent and even fatal. #SRHR

Frozen ruts are the worst in my opinion. I've ridden packed snow, wet leaves, gravel and slush, but this is impassible.

Tragic indeed. This is something a family never fully recovers from. I understand their wanting to do something special that seems uplifting, but releasing balloons causes wildlife suffering, especially aquatic life.

Historically, house ownership has been a way to build up generational wealth, institutionally denied to Black families through redlining and mandated covenants. For people choosing to remain childfree, generational wealth is moot. Renting affords mobility and avoids unexpected house repairs.

It's kinda funny though: pronatalists quote each other for the illusion of depth. This one quotes Dean Spears, a professor of Economic Demography at The Population Research Center at The University of Texas at Austin, which received a large donation from Musk. + Paul Moreland, depopulation alarmist.

If you link to the article, it's just like so many pronatalist propaganda pieces. Tedious after a couple dozen. Conflates replacement level fertility with zero pop growth & not enough workers to support pensioners. Says India's TFR is 2.0, but no mention of their 250 mill projected growth by 2060.

You're not alone in ignoring humanity's overshoot of Earth's carrying capacity. Elon Musk agrees with you as do many capitalists. I appreciate your work in so many other areas, which makes me sad you persist in this denial.
