The UN released a scathing report criticizing Canada’s treatment of disabled people and expansion of assisted suicide.

What did Canada have to say for itself? Not much.

Getting real tired of hearing about "short/brief illness" and thinking it could probably have been easily prevented if a few more people just wore a mask when they were feeling or were recently sick.

Mark Carney is right to say that the old order is not coming back. But where his remarks fall short is in their insistence on answering the crises of our time through the lens of neoliberalism—an ideology that has, for decades, hollowed out the very sovereignty he now claims to defend.
What Mark Carney gets wrong about the end of the rules-based order
To re-establish power, defend sovereignty, and strengthen democratic values, Canada and its allies must do more than challenge the American state. We must also confront the influence of US corporate p...

As we're heading into the beginning of the seventh year of the pandemic, I've been thinking about what future treatments will require for scientists do properly do their jobs.
I suspect they'll eventually really need people who've never contracted Covid, but I don't know how many we'll be by then.

Having idiosyncracies like counting syllables, ensuring certain words aren't reused for at least a few paragraphs and making sure my words fit my own cadence (for some reason I have a beat to my speaking voice), etc.
Also gettng a "no results found" verbatim search for certain phrases can help, too.
I think it would be fun if writers who love language started intentionally writing more strangely as AI flattens written "content" into a mono-voice. it would cool I think if writers responded by focusing their individual efforts on cultivating a really unique voice that's hard to copy

I can understand where people are coming from when they say, "everything's Al now so don't bother trying to distinguish it from photography", but then not trying to distinguish it creates it's own hype of "it's so convincing people have given up altogether".
I'm still not willing to do that, though.

Just to elaborate on this a bit, because being trans is so closely associated with marginalization, I think some parents unconsciously feel pressured to distance themselves from their trans child in order to remain loyal to the norms of their particular upbringing and recipients of its privileges.
Considering how easy it is for some parents to kneejerk themselves into "how could this happen to us, normal people?" when their kid comes out as trans and how that culture/class/status shock can get twisted into feelings of loss and estrangement, their reaction can end up legitimizing lots of harm.
