These 18 books are currently banned in Utah schools state-wide. If you look closely, you'll notice a trend of female and minority authors, and LGBTQIA+ stories. It's important for us to come together, read and discuss these books, and fight for our freedom to read.

Update with some good news! Davis School District is *keeping* TWISTED by Laurie Halse Anderson and THE HATE U GIVE by Angie Thomas. After reviewing these books in their entirety, the review committee found that these books have "serious educational value" and should stay on the shelves! Huzzah! 1/

Small win in Davis School District! The school board voted in favor of our appeals of TWISTED and THE HATE U GIVE. These books will now be reviewed in their entirety instead of removed because of out-of-context passages. Thanks to everyone who sent in comments to support these books! 1/

Unless the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) takes action by July 4th, Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen, will become 18th book permanently banned statewide in Utah. Please contact board members and ask them to overturn the ban and restore local control! letutahread.org/localcontrol
Tell USBE to Vote for Local Control — LET UTAH READ
Tell Utah State School Board (USBE) to overturn the statewide book bans on Water for Elephants and affirm the power of local school districts to govern themselves.
