That was wonderful. As I grapple with my own deep uneasiness with AI, I think about whether I'd want a 'perfect' AI + robot simulation of a friend, or a flawed, difficult, messy but real human friend. No question that I'd choose the latter--the one with a heart--every time.

I haven't verified this story, but it claims that the woman shot by
federal agents in Chicago has been released on bond. Her lawyer contended that video of the incident does not match the account of federal agents. It sounds more like an officer who just wanted to shoot someone.

It's possible that you read, as you say. But you are either reading right-wing hair-on-fire sites, or you're reading that crime has plummeted and choosing to reject the data. The data of my personal experience has perfectly matched the published data: A huge surge in 2020, and plummeting in 2024/25.

I live in Chicago, so I pay attention to what's going on. Crime skyrocketed with George Floyd and COVID. In the last year, the crime rate has crashed, and it's extremely noticeable. The whole vibe has changed. I live in LP and work in River North. Right now, it's as good as I've ever seen it. 1/2
