I second Ben’s advice of looking at Till Death Us Do Part and ESPECIALLY Steptoe & Son, Galton & Simpson are the most important Writers in British Sitcom history.

The first series was great fun and the central romance adds emotional weight, thought it went a bit off the boil in the second series with lots of new characters who didn’t land but the first series stands alone really nicely, recommended.

Nice to hear Agony get a shout out! Maureen Lipman is fantastic in it+it almost has shades of a female version of Frasier sometimes but it’s remarkably progressive for 1979, her two best friends are a gay couple, she smokes weed, is a trans ally+eviscerates racist callers on her radio show.
