Starmer: show some backbone! Massive problems need radical solutions. Stop listening to the lobby and start listening to the people - Ground Rent has to go.
Starmer warned against fresh U-turn that could trigger row 'with 100 MPs'
There is speculation the government could row back on its promise to cap ground rents amid concern from the Treasury about the impact on pension funds.

With International Law is crumbling under pressure we need people to speak up so that our Government knows we care

If you think that what Iran is doing is horrific, & that we should do our part to help Iranians who manage to flee - don't be silent. Share, post, email your MP - just don't be silent

Dumped Mattress, broken sign, potholes and more all reported this evening.

Every little helps but really we just need a whole new approach - and that will not happen unless we can get more Liberal Democrats elected in Brent.

Sometimes it's the little things

The bollard here had been broken for months - cars were hitting the curb because they couldn't see it

A resident pointed it out while I was doorknocking. I followed up with the council and it has been replaced

#Votelibdem if you want politicians who do the work

Great afternoon In Wembley Central with Luke Taylor MP and our three excellent candidates. Daniel, Heta and Chirag

I myself saw some pretty horrific proof of why Brent needs more councillors who actually do the work. There are always issues which have just gone ignored for years

Out and about talking to residents and cleaning up our area yesterday... as we went around we reported :

1. Fly tips
2. Subsidence in the Abbey estate green space
3. Street drinkers with an open fire

So much work to do - the Labour run council is just failing to get on top of so many issues.

And again, this is why leasehold - all leaseholds - must be abolished. AND why builders must be regulated and accountable. Absolutely devastating for the families involved.

I cannot believe that the day after Ed Davey is named as the most trusted leader on the economy, the BBC do not air his response to the government on their coverage. Absolutely ridiculous.

Great to be out campaigning with Assembly member @Hinabokharild.bsky.social yesterday.

There are so many Labour voters saying they are looking for a new home - and we can offer that home.
November 12, 2025 at 11:05 AM
And yet another defective new build - homes that have been built to solve one crisis, just feeding another one.

There's no pointing in shouting "build baby build" if the homes you build can't be lived in.

@Keir_Starmer - when are you going to take this issue seriously?

It was a privilege to play the Last Post at the Hampstead Remembrance day ceremony.

I said it before and I will say it again: it has never been more important to remember the lessons of the past.

Remembering all of those who fought for our country - and more importantly than ever before , what they were fighting for.

We must never forget or we are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past.

What a surprise.... its almost like some of us have been pointing out for years that there is a major issue with building quality in this country.

And the way the residents are being treated, and provided with very little information is not acceptable.

Great to meet some of our fantastic London Fire fighters this week.

We hear so much about how slow the pace of change has been since Grenfell - and more change is needed.

But it was good to hear how the LFB are upgrading their gear to deal with larger tower block fires. Absolutely vital.

And some people wonder why Asylum Seekers might possibly want to flee countries like Sudan and come to Europe / UK...

They are fleeing their homes to survive. For the possibility of not having to live in fear. For the safety of their families.

They deserve our help.

We really need to get these gates moved up to the edge of the pavement.

The council created a whole series of perfect drinking / dumping spots which are not covered by the Veolia street cleaning contract.

Time to clean up and design out the problem!

Horrified and hugely concerned about the attack in Manchester today. Any attack on any group based on their religion, race or belief must be utterly condemned by all. And to my Jewish friends today - my heart goes out to you , and I hope you & your families are safe and well.

This last week the Brent Tories called for the council to release data on hotel usage for Asylum seekers in Brent.

Liberal Democrats including myself very loudly said no.

We must stop pandering to the narrative that immigrants - are in anyway part of the problem and put the blame where it belongs.

So many myths to dispel, its hard to know where to start.

But perhaps this is the one that matters most: #Refugees are people. Not political footballs.
