Great to see the momentum behind changing the voting system - and we are proud to see Lib Dem MP Lisa Smart working hard with other allies and cross-party to achieve fair votes!

Only with fair votes can we resolve the UK's long-term issues instead of the next government undoing it all.

Today marks International #DemocracyDay.

Democracy matters - and it cannot be taken for granted.

Our voting system leaves swathes of people feeling powerless and fuels disillusionment, which can have dangerous consequences.

Change can't wait. We need #PRnow.
On International Day of Democracy I'm calling for Proportional Representation.

In countries using proportional representation, they have higher voter turnout because every vote affects the composition of the parliament and therefore what policies are implemented.

With FPTP, voters are stuck with safe seats and wasted votes.

"An electoral system that gave a perverse picture of national preferences when there was a two-party duopoly goes completely haywire when 4 or 5 parties score in the high teens or 20s."

Exactly this. FPTP can't handle our multi-party reality. Now more than ever: it must be scrapped.

"I've lived in safe seats all of my life. I've only had one MP who's ever responded to my letter."

Does FPTP really guarantee a meaningful "constituency link"?
