Creating the of AI things to consider list now. 1. Cake
woodsiegirl.bsky.social
Cake as a metaphor for AI! Baking from scratch, using a cake mix, or buying a cake are all acceptable in different circumstances. AI is similar: when do you need to do all the work yourself, when can you use AI for the basics (like a cake mix!), when can it be good enough for the whole? #lilac24

This afternoon we’re visiting a specialist library for blind & visually impaired citizens of Astana. #WLIC2025

We’ve been shown equipment for creating braille & other alternative formats plus a brand new prestigious collection of items from Kazakh poet Abai Qunanbaiuly.

Friday is tours day at #WLIC2025

First stop is Maqsut Narikbayev University Library.

It’s housed in a building affectionately known by students as the “banana building” owing to its bright yellow exterior.

The library itself was recently refurbished & looks stunning 🤩

One of the reading rooms at MNU - it has a cuboid design featuring cosy soft furnishings and wooden shelving with glass panels. Yellow lighting is built into the shelves. The Provost of MNU welcoming around 30 #WLIC2025 delegates to the library in MNU Library’s event’s space which features a large screen stating “Welcoming to IFLA WLIC delegates”. Another angle of the library’s events space. Delegates are taking photos of the big screen showing a photo of the library and a title image. Fascinating hearing examples of how libraries are responding to challenges to democracy at #WLIC2025 today.

These range from a censorship case in Germany, to provision of prison libraries in Canada, to encouraging digital literacy for combating misinformation in India. @ifla.org @cilip.bsky.social
Juliana Pranke from the German Library Association speaking about “Curation or Censorship” on the main stage at #WLIC2025. An image of a typewriter with the words “Freedom of Speech” can also be seen on the title slide. Another slide form Juliana’s talk, showing figures of librarians in an office looking in despair, with big children’s style building blocks saying “WTF?!” In the background. “Challenges and lessons learned” slide from a talk about advocating for prison libraries by Kirsten Wurmann who can be seen at the podium. A slide from Jelena Glišovic’s talk on advocating for Serbian Libraries. It is about “Involving Public Citizens” and examples of media coverage about Jelena’s campaign can be seen in a collage.
