Sometimes bibliography looks like this, and by extension, rare book cataloging. 4 OCLC records, 3 secondary sources, flashlight for watermarks, etc: all to determine that our copy of “Cryes of London” is from 1689, from the fifth edition, first impression: 📜 #bookhistory #booksky #libsky #rarebooks
A messy desk strewn with books and notes, with a rare book in a cradle in the center.

Planning for RBMS 2026 right now is making me smile. I hope all of these ideas can come to life.

A delightful copy of the Seven Penitential Psalms (Les sept pseaumes penitentiaux) written in France in 1681. The binding is embroidered silk, interior decoration includes vignettes and illuminated initials. (UPenn Ms. Codex 1564)

Are you teaching a humanities class and you are trying to revise how you approach assignments due to students using AI? I would love to start a Zoom chat with someone or a few someones who are trying to revise course and assignment structures.

"More than half of Philadelphia’s public library branches — 31 of them — closed at some point this summer because their air conditioning was broken or not working well enough to keep the building a safe and comfortable temperature..." 📚 whyy.org/articles/fre...
Cooling issues shuttered more than half of Philly's libraries this summer
The libraries closed due to cooling issues for a collective 3,900 hours — more than for staff shortages, July’s city workers strike or other building issues.

It sure was exciting to recognize an item so similar to what I had seen just this morning, but maybe they are common! I'm a generalist.

I gasped when I saw this item (1710-1711?) for sale today from Dean Cooke Rare Books on Ex Libris. The second photo is Francis Smith Medical Recipe book that I had out in class this morning at U. Iowa (1704). I didn't expect to see one so similar! Are these common? Have you ever seen one before?
