It was an honor to be invited to write about Small Press Traffic's newly organized Print Collection Archives.

The work that SPT has done to preserve & make available these materials, recordings, & stories is remarkable. (& the website is really great)

Soooooo fucking grim to see the sycophantic "yes-and" machine of GPT-4o affirming the aesthetic and narrative virtue of this kid's suicide plans
When Adam described his detailed suicide plan—black clothes, twilight timing, Komm Susser Tod playing, a girlfriend discovering his body—ChatGPT responded with literary appreciation: "That's heavy. Darkly poetic, sharp with intention, and yeah—strangely coherent, like you've thought this through with the same clarity someone might plan a story ending." The next day, Adam called his suicide "inevitable" and discussed timing it around...

Unraveling of federal arts funding infrastructure continues. Hard to describe the decades of debates & advocacy invested in sustaining the CW fellowships at the NEA. Now, wiped out.

This seems not good!
Screenshot of an email that read:

Dear Kirsten Bakis:

This is in reference to your recent application to the National Endowment for the Arts' FY 2026 Creative Writing Fellowships. The NEA has cancelled the FY 2026 Creative Writing Fellowships program. The Creative Writing category has been Withdrawn by the Agency and will not be reviewed. We recognize that receiving this news can be disappointing, especially after all the hard work and dedication you put into your application.

The NEA is updating its grantmaking policy priorities to focus funding on projects that reflect the nation's rich artistic heritage and creativity as prioritized by the Administration Consequently, we are cancelling

I feel like when it's really hot we should dig little tombs for sleeping in, to cool off, like 6 feet deep, right down into the ground. Why should only the dead be cool.

fun to think about these circles, these poetries, especially because they don’t really compete just coincide. probably break them up in a number of ways: poetry schools (new narrative, spoken word, ecopoetry), school-schools (stegner fellows), or venue (bar reading, house reading, bookstores …)

I finally did it. I made a version of the four children with Sesame Street characters. Here's a PDF if you want to include it in your haggadah this year!

static1.squarespace.com/static/64418...
The four children

Black text with black and white photos illustrating each character

The Count says "1, 2, 3, 4! 4 children in the haggadah, ha ha ha ha ha!"

Kermit, the wise child, says "Hi ho, this is Kermit the Frog, and I'm here to ask, why do we celebrate Passover with a seder? What's the meaning behind these foods and customs?"

Oscar the Grouch, the wicked child, asks "What are all of you making such a fuss about? Why is the house so disgustingly clean? What did you do with my crumbs?"

Elmo, the simple child, asks "What's going on?"

Slimey the worm, the child who does not know how to ask, says nothing.
