The Times have waged a relentless hate campaign against disabled people so no wonder Starmer and his DWP ministers promote them at every turn.

"Meanwhile, the proportion of people deemed “unfit to work” by the work capability assessment has skyrocketed. In 2011, it stood at 20 per cent. Now, it has risen to 67 per cent." This is just a flat out lie.

Utter rubbish. Potentially losing almost £9000 a year might mean nothing to MPs, but for disabled people it will be life ending.

I can't imagine how disabled people who rely on this support will be feeling watching the news today. I can promise Greens will fight these cruel cuts tooth & nail and I hope every principled MP across the house will do so too. #DisabilityBenefits

Feels like I'm waiting to discover if I have been sentenced to death or not...because that's what these cuts will mean to me.

It is VERY frustrating. That and the constant rhetoric about disabled people being "incentivised to claim a more generous income" by being on disability benefits rather than jobseeking. I do wonder if people realise how deeply offensive this is or just don't care.

Debbie, just wanted to say that disabled people in this country sincerely appreciate you fighting for us behind the scenes right now. Thank you so much.

I'm still trying to figure out where these millions of vacancies, crying out for people with severe disabilities and no recent work history are? Can someone let me know, as I know plenty of people who would love one.
March 9, 2025 at 7:45 PM
Whenever Labour and the DWP lie and say cuts incentivise work, remember the OBR predicted that it would only lead to 3% of those affected returning to work. They know this, but still carry on with the lie.
March 8, 2025 at 5:21 PM
Not even the Conservatives would do this. Labour are an utter disgrace.
March 7, 2025 at 7:55 PM
Thank you for speaking up for disabled people. The fact that not a single Labour MP has done so has convinced me to cancel my Labour membership and join the Greens.
March 6, 2025 at 5:08 PM
I have cancelled all donations to Mind and are giving the money to Scope instead, who actually seem to care about the people they are supposed to represent.

As Ben's chart shows, overal welfare spending on non-pensioner households has grown slightly as a share of GDP - but not by much.

Employers and claimants will see these "reforms" for exactly what they are- a crude cost cutting measure to make things look good on a spreadsheet for the OBR. Labour had the opportunity to change this- they decided to carry out with the failed Tory way.
March 6, 2025 at 10:09 AM
Where are these millions of jobs for disabled people? Nobody is being "written off"- anyone can access the (useless) support from the DWP if they wish. Cutting support that disabled people rely on to survive is evil-not virtuous.
March 6, 2025 at 9:42 AM
People who are too disabled to work through no fault of their own are not "on the scrapheap". They are human beings trying to live their lives.
March 5, 2025 at 11:25 PM
And if you are too disabled too work, Labour say you are "on the scrapheap" a "stain on the country" and "just sitting at home doing nothing" according to Reeves. Labour have shown their true colours.
March 4, 2025 at 11:26 PM
Is cutting over 60% of disabled people's incomes and expecting them to hunt for jobs they can't do and don't exist so they can be sanctioned and left penniless tough but fair? I'm not so sure myself. Certainly not the "change" many were hoping for
February 20, 2025 at 5:13 PM
Debbie, we learn from The Times today that your government is planning to decimate disability benefits and only pay them £90 a week. Is this misinformation?
February 20, 2025 at 9:54 AM
We learn from The Times today that you are cutting disability benefits back to £90 a week, which nobody can live on. Now THAT is morally bankrupt.
