Victoria does great work on behalf of writers and her research should be cited!
Today I'm identifying with independent journalists whose work is quoted by bigger pubs w/out attribution. I'm not a journalist, obviously, but w/in my niche I'm often first to report, and it's maddening to see articles that use my research but don't or barely cite me or attribute it to others

If you have a Dem senator and you're seeing this right now, CALL THEM RIGHT NOW and tell them NO. If you don't know anyone who would be affected by this, call them for my friend Lisa. She cannot afford insurance without ACA subsidies and without health insurance I'm terrified she will die.
! A key group of Senate Democrats is leaning toward voting for a deal to end the shutdown, provided final details can be worked out like worker protections (Gift link)

(Deal does NOT include an ACA extension.)

Been warned against using a prologue?

I often issue that warning. But prologues do have a place in some stories, if they're done well.

Several different types of prologues are reviewed here, along with examples of effective ones, from @marykabiaggio.bsky.social.
Prologues That Work and Why | Jane Friedman
Prologues get a bad rap as backstory or info dumps but, done well, they can intrigue readers and ignite interest in the story to come.

Scammers are really intent on scaring authors into not contacting someone like me. For example, this "confidentiality notice", appended to a fake offer of publication from Celadon Books, which threatens "blacklisting" of the author "across the entire publishing industry"
