Between Tranjan getting a piece in the Star and the recent editorial by @lindamcquaig.bsky.social about postal banking 💰 📮, I feel like I'm living in a bizarro world where good faith discourse on the public good is coming back.

The new $ 17.60-an-hour minimum wage is an arbitrary figure that could and needs to be much higher. Why is it not?

Because the Ontario government is making the political choice to keep minimum wage workers poor.

Hey, thanks, Ron. Yes, the book (written with tax prof Neil Brooks) explains how a modest wealth tax on ultra-wealthy Canadians could raise billions a year, and make this a much more equal country. If billionaires chose to leave, they'd face a hefty exit tax. #canlab

There is no place at our universities for this Trump-style violence against student protesters, who are committing no crime and are standing up for international law. #cndpoli #onpoli #topoli www.instagram.com/p/DOzEHEOkeeH/

This politician is a nation-breaker not a nation builder, proposing to ram a new oil pipeline through BC that British Columbians don't want; a pipeline doomed by economics to be a stranded asset before it's finished.
Smith is everything we don't need in a political leader.

Comey’s indictment exposes stunningly amateur missteps by Trump’s insurance-lawyer-turned-prosecutor. Barbara McQuade dissects the flaws and explains why the case is unlikely to reach trial.

The very botched Comey indictment
The case so far is so sloppy, it might never get to a jury.

It certainly appears the United States murdered an innocent fisherman who was a husband and father to four children, claimed he was a "narco-terrorist," posted a video of the execution, and then made jokes about it

Minnesota’s soybean farmers produced a bumper crop this year, just to find out they have nowhere to sell their harvest thanks to Trump’s trade policies.

I’ll keep standing with our farmers
to advocate for an end to these reckless tariffs.

Pritzker: "In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists & protesters when unprovoked what would we call it? If officials marched down streets harassing civilians & demanding their papers, what would we say? I don't think we'd have trouble calling it what it is: authoritarianism"

Here’s something that could make Canada Post profitable — like it did before -- but instead Mark Carney wants to gut our national post office. That’s no way to build a nation. #canlab #cdnpoli #postal #canpoli www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
Linda McQuaig: Postal banking once made Canada Post profitable — and could again
Providing banking services to rural and low-income Canadians through post offices would be a Canada-first form of nation-building for the people.

NEW: Rachel Maddow drops unseen bodycam footage of feds coordinating the arrest of Newark Mayor Baraka.

I REPEAT: the feds ordered his arrest even though he wasn’t breaking any laws.

Federal agent: “We are arresting the mayor right now per the Deputy Attorney General of the United States.”

People of Illinois, we need your help.

Get your cell phones out – record what you see. Put it on social media. Peacefully ask for badge numbers and identification. Speak up for your neighbors.

We need to let the world know this is happening – and that we won’t stand for it.

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice. Except it doesn’t bend on its own—it bends because we pull it in the direction of justice. What keeps me hopeful during times like these is being surrounded by people who are doing just that.

Manitoba's future rests upon building out the green economy based on comprehensive electrification and rapid development of renewables. Investing in fossil fuels - like pipelines to Churchill - will condemn Manitoba to being an economic backwater. #MbPoli
