It passed the Senate but needs to go to the House. So you are correct it is not becoming law this year. With the pressure from the Governor and Micro$oft they didn't have enough votes to pass it earlier in session.

Wealth tax passed the Senate. Those were the floor speeches we should have been hearing for the last four months: Democrats saying #TaxTheRich to fund investments for the next generation, like public schools, and asking why the Republicans didn't support it too. #WAleg #WashingtonForAll #1u

Ferguson said he wanted the wealth tax tested in court, so they absolutely should have passed it so that that could happen. Sending it to the ballot wouldn't do that: Haywood and Walsh can try that.

What should #waleg have done differently, given @governorferguson.bsky.social 's repeated threats of using his veto power on revenue bills? It is also up to the people and political campaign donors to "stand up to an unpopular governor."

The Democrats in the legislature pushed for a wealth tax bill, but between @governorferguson.bsky.social 's signaling hesitancy about it, and Micro$oft and other big corporations' lobbying, it may not pass this year. #WAleg

Since the majority decides what bills can pass, and the minority decide how long it will take, it sounds like Rep Graham is just filling time. #waleg should have "call the question" as a procedural rule, which requires a super-majority vote to end debate and immediately vote on the main motion.

Asset management is good stewardship. The carpet example is an easy deferral because there is no additional cost to delaying replacement. But when we delay spending on other assets, like streets and roads, there is often a higher cost to replace than there would have been to maintain. #waleg
