On Twitter I can see no one talking about the chemistry Nobel, but here on Bluesky there's so much chatter about it. Bluesky feels like the old Twitter now😄

His dream finally comes true 👏

A few years ago, I heard Omar Yaghi's students say Yaghi had been expecting himself to win Nobel for a couple of years

I am so pleased to see MOFs finally winning the #NobelPrize!! #ChemSky

Congratulations to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar Yaghi! For more reaction, follow our live blog.

Haha, fortunately, this time the laureates are real chemists! 🎉

Tomorrow we're gonna see whether the Nobel Prize in Chemistry this year will be awarded to biologists or physicists 👀

What are some good platforms for chemists to publish op-eds on?

COVID is so nasty. It steals my appetite and makes me feel food is disgusting. It tries to starve me so that my immune system no longer has enough energy to fight it. Just like Israel trying to starve Gazans so that they can't fight back. Nasty.

It's heartbreaking to hear that Greta Thunberg has been detained and physically abused by Israel 💔😡 She deserves much better!

Just a reminder that COVID is still everywhere and you still need to take tests for COVID. Once you test positive, you know what you should do to not spread it. COVID is still killing and disabling people on a daily basis. Let's try not to spread it.

This is the second time I've got COVID. The first time was in May 2023. Although I was glad to be COVID free for a long time, now I'm feeling miserable 😖🤧😩
This time it makes me lose my appetite for everything and gives me nausea. Also severe headache - l feel as if my head were going to explode.

It seems to enjoy sticking to the foil 😭
lingfengge.bsky.social
I see. I'm glad I've thrown it away already😆
lingfengge.bsky.social
I've already thrown it away. I'm not an organic chemist, so I have no patience with silica😴

Does anyone on #ChemSky know how to effectively remove silica dust from aluminium foil or any metal surfaces? It's not easy to wash it off with water🤦‍♀️ I'm ready to throw it away tbh
lingfengge.bsky.social
I've just got some aluminium foil from another lab but it turns out their lab is so messy that everything has some silica dust (yeah, the silica for column chromatography) sticking to it 🤦‍♀️ I have to wash the foil
lingfengge.bsky.social
Not really. If you breathe in silica dust, you're doomed...

Two colleagues brought us some snacks (homemade Basque cheesecake and Twix) today. I really enjoy these small joys at work! 😋😄👍

Ah I see. I use trams/buses for my commute, and they're always air-conditioned in the summer. And my lab is always air-conditioned to around 20°C to make sure the instruments work well. I'm lucky.

Nah, we rarely need to do an experiment that long. When the laser beamline is already set up, the daily adjustment takes less than one hour, and the experiment takes 3-4 hours at most.

So, chemistry undergrads, don't choose o-chem as your future career if you want work-life balance! Choose p-chem instead!😁
