Both. "By Any Other Name" and "I, Mudd" are probably perfect examples of that, since in both episodes you have a serious situation resolved by goofy hijinks.

Nah, got to disagree - TOS was by far sillier, IMHO.

...but I THINK I get what she's trying to say.

Yep, you've got it down great, honestly. That's kind of my problem with the quote as I boil it down, I think - it's not that any Trek series or Trek overall IS silly, it's that it CAN be silly - and there's nothing wrong it BEING silly sometimes. The quote just feels a bit rigid and definitive...

Then the answer to what is wrong with you is that you are horny and a dude sending you dick pics makes you feel desired. And horny. Horniness is an exponential growth thing.

I mean, do you like it in a horny way or like it in a "Pffft, sure, whatever" kind of way?

Obviously, I'm not going to make hour-long rage videos about this quote, but it does further reinforce how I am not interested in modern Trek.

...The mariachi band shows up once.

As a joke. On TNG, not DS9.

And yeah, she is correct that Star Trek encompasses many genres and tones, so I'm not mad about that, but just saying "this specific show is silly" is dumb, because that implies that the silliness is the norm when it is not.

Okay, but that's saying that there were silly comedy episodes on occasion.

Not that the entire series is silly. Admittedly, I haven't seen the context for this quote and am only learning about this now, but I'm not really seeing this as the defense you think it is.

Reeeaally feels like if it's under the street, then it is indeed the city's problem and they should be paying for it. =/
