I'm Shirley, a Black/Korean woman who makes really cool art.

It's Juneteenth, and Black people still have yet to receive reparations. But here are some of the ways you can financially support me today! ✨💖

Selfie of me in my incredible DIY San from Princess Mononoke outfit A colourful collection of pottery featuring little dragon totems, a small barn swallow totem, larger animal totems in the back, and further in the back are mugs/vessels stacked on top of each other. Large sgraffito dragon totem with California Poppy motifs carved into it's side, and gold glaze details on it's spine and antlers. Done with black and orange underglazes. Left side view. There will be about 3 dozen tikis for sale this year at BLFC. Each one is different and one of a kind as I experiment with slip, glazes, underglazes, and special effects. Prices will vary as well, from $65 up to $130 so there will be something for everyone.
A snarling tiger tiki made of black clay inlaid with a soft pink glaze. A marbled clay tiger tiki with glossy purple glaze inlaid.

I wonder if there's any way to engineer them to be delicious tasting so then people can just have a bonus snack 😂😂

It's definitely impressive how these squishy things can ship such delicate stuff so safely!!

I think those are the kind I've got (I've been grabbing surplus peanuts from my local pottery story)!!
I hear you can eat them too but I heard that they don't taste like all that 😂😂😂

I used to be so skeptical but I am now a believer in the Power of Packing Peanuts

I know we lose brain points as we get older, but at the same time I want to stay as sharp as possible, cognitively!!! 😭😭😂😂

That's what I'm feeling too—I need to warm up and possibly just re-read things and take my time! I'm not accustomed to reading this kind of literature so I think there's that as well 😂😂
But I figure if I keep at it I'll get it eventually!
lioninthetrees.bsky.social
I want to understand the concepts of what he's talking about and the context of it all. But clearly my knowledge and understanding is very much lacking so I've got some homework!!!

Y'all ever try reading a non-fiction book but you struggle to understand precisely what the author is trying to say, and you start to feel stupid and feel like your cognitive abilities have declined??

This guy was kind of difficult to photograph, and is one that translates better in-person. I wanted to recreate the shape of Korea as it's sometimes portrayed as an ascending tiger.
They kind of look like they're dancing hence their name 😂

A large sgraffito orange and creamy white ceramic tiger sculpture sitting on it's hind legs rearing up with a paw in the air, and it's mouth wide open as though it's shouting to the sky. There is a mini-me version of them pictured in front of them mimicking the pose. It took me well over 50lbs of clay to finally figure out how to properly center and throw on a wheel. The beautiful thing about clay is that it can be reused and recycled, so nothing ever truly goes to waste while you learn 😉👍

Thank you!! I totally forgot about Whole Foods! 😭😭😂😂
They definitely would be a place that would carry them.
lioninthetrees.bsky.social
UGHHH that is so frustrating!! 😩😩
I still haven't heard from the other place either (I don't think I ever will 😭😭)

But this glaze looks SO CLOSE to it despite not being (or firing) the same!

Did you finally find the formula for your red????

Yeah, seeing the toys and just imagining that they were once loved and played with by her brought some tears to my eyes.

Tarot of the Woodland Wardens is out today! It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever made, and I hope you love it as much as I do. Find it through your favorite bookstore: site.andrewsmcmeel.com/tarot-of-the...
