I just looked up our SS increase for 2026. Our benefits went up 2.8%. The part B premium went up about 7%. My part D more than doubled. That leaves us with approximately $30 to pay for the increased medigap premium for the two of us. What do you bet that won't even come close to covering increase?

The number of ships coming into the Columbia River is less than half what it was a year ago. We used to often see 10-15 at a time waiting for pilots. Now a busy day is 7, days of less than five are not uncommon. Tariffs? I certainly think it's possible

I just read about UPS's take on the craziness of the tariff applications on imports. I live a few miles north of the mouth of the Columbia River and cross over to Astoria frequently. It has always been a busy place for ship traffic.

I'm confused. Navarro says that the contraction in the GDP is a good thing because it is caused by companies importing more before the tariffs go into effect. But Trump says it's all Biden's fault. So it's Biden's fault that the contraction is good? Interesting take.

I'm all for efficiency and economy but if one more person says it's best to "rip off the bandage" I disagree! Doing so tears away healing tissue, starts bleeding and can cause hemorrhage, slows healing and increases scarring. Prepare properly and it costs much less in the long run.

While the focus on MMR vaccine has been on the measles, we must not forget the R. Since the advent of MMR there has been a70% decrease in the number of Rubella related birth defects.

As someone living a mil from the Pacific Ocean in the Pacific Northwest, I'm very concerned about the cuts to NOAA. Between living near the mouth of the Columbia, often called the graveyard of the Pacific and along Cascadia fault, most people in the area have NOAA radios and monitor for safety.

Why are people giving Trump credit for the decrease in border crossings when they have been dropping since last June?

I'm slightly to the right politically but not at all extreme. Thing I think would help is upgrading computer systems across the board. Like at least to something that wasn't obsolete twenty years ago. That by itself would improve efficiency. But I object to the rush that is going on.

OK , I'm done with winter. I want more sun and at least some warmer temperatures. It is going to be a long time before May gets here.

I just talked with my youngest grandson who is leaving today for a mission in Honduras. He is legally an adult but has some growing up to do. He acknowledged this in our conversation. I'm both concerned for his safety and excited to see how he grows.
