Arabic: Ibn-Muqla, who developed the six post-kufic script types, was called "a prophet in the field
of calligraphy" & his letters were often compared to flowers. [this is a later ms explaining Muqla's rhomboid system for composing letters of correct proportions] iiif.lib.harvard.edu/manifests/vi...

There were forty of these boxes, & thirty-two have been located. Each is filled with fifty leaves, one from each of the same fifty manuscripts dating from the 12th to the 15th c. This means that without trying very hard, we can find 32 leaves from each of these 50 manuscripts!

Today I learned that Frederick II of Sicily explicitly banned the use of Beneventan script in his Liber Augustalis of 1231. What did Beneventan script ever do to HIM? I mean, I get it, it can be a challenge compared to Caroline bookhand, but COME ON it's so pretty!

January 6, 2026 at 4:55 PM
Libra = Christ and the Money-lenders ('cause they needed a scale to weigh the coins, we can't see it but we know it's there)
