The moon has been so lovely this week.

My dad would have been 84 years old today. It’s a hard day.

Surprise Spring Peeper frog in our kitchen this morning; must have come in on a plant. Found him crawling up the kitchen cabinets and relocated him to the back porch.

All the way back to Elizabethan England; many times great grandfather born in Hillmorton, Warwickshire, England in 1565 (a year younger than Shakespeare). We can trace her maternal side back to the 1680s in Delaware. Puritans and ship captains. Definitely a few skeletons in those colonial closets.

We brought him home in the TSA approved wooden urn and I had to bring the engraved metal urn in my checked bag, so at some point we’ll transfer him back. Inurnment at the national Cemetery of the Alleghenies in October. He’s on our shelf. It’s still entirely surreal.

Home again in West Virginia, with my dad’s ashes. We ordered pizza and I just opened the bottle of wine my dad enjoyed (Bogle Petite Syrah). My dog is very happy to see me after more than two months without me. Dramatic sky over Suncrest Town Center.

My parents met on August 8, 1964, a few months after my dad left the Air Force where he worked on Titan 1 missiles, and they were married on December 12, 1964. My dad died this Wednesday, just shy of 61 years with my mother. A long, very good life. I’m heartbroken but so grateful.
