Washed dad and trophy husband from Chicago living in New Orleans. All I got are dad jokes, sports takes, and revolution.

I had an ex in undergrad that would be playing that Mariah joint in the background whenever she called me after we had an argument.

Hearing this song kicked off my unlearning journey. Tracey and Mercedes sung this straight into my soul.

And even though the FQ is set up to be self-contained, you're on the edge of some great neighborhood spots. Definitely look around. You don't even have to go that far.

I love local New Orleans businesses. I'm doing lunch at a spot I haven't been to in YEARS. They remember me from when I used to bring my son when he was a toddler. They even asked about him and felt some kind of way that he's in high school now.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE TIME TO BE CRITICIZING POTENTIAL CANDIDATES. You pressure people before they win or even get nominated or you have no leverage and miss opportunities for better candidates to emerge.

We are not a purity test. And we deserve to not be thrown under the bus. Newsom shows NO sign of supporting us long term. If anything he's going to spiral even more to the right than he already is to further his political ambitions. This is absolutely the time to be criticizing potential candidates.

Dead Prez came back on along with all of the other acts and did the song. We loud sang the hook. It was an absolute blast.

Questlove manages every live show The Roots headline, and he absolutely knew what the people wanted here. There was no better way to give it to us than that.

When The Roots were done, everyone sort of lingered hoping for an encore. The stage was dark and empty. After about four minutes, the lights that lined the bottom of the stage cut back on. That very distinct bass line from Hip Hop started playing.

We lost our collective shit.

The complete line up was Jaguar Wright, Jazzyfatnastees, Bahamadia, Dice Raw, T*lib Kw*li, Dead Prez, and The Roots.

Dead Prez's set did not include Hip-Hop, and the crowd was noticeably confused. The Roots were good enough to make us forget, at least for their set.

This concert was a master class in knowing the culture. The Roots were the bigger act, but Dead Prez had the hottest song at the time.

Pic from undergrad. A concert at Loyola University where I saw the above group along with Bahamadia (she didn't finish her set because she thought the crowd wasn't into her), T*lib Kw*li, Dead Prez, and The Roots.

"Diana Ross says “It’s my house & I live here.” She sings in Spanish too, Lillian.. “It’s my casa & yo viva aqui.” 😂

Eddie Murphy has ruined multiple songs for me. When I hear them, I sing them his way 🤣
