Scarcely a day goes by where I don’t run face-first into a spiderweb or inadvertently bring some little darling in on my hair or clothes from the garden. I still haven’t been bitten- spiders are *not* aggressive animals.

iNaturalist tells me this tiny dude is probably genus Battalus. #Arachtober

This is what we’ve had to do to our front verge to stop Timmy from excavating it and taking the whole lot across the road.

You know the saying: “Reality has a left-wing bias”. It would take more effort to steer any kind of intelligence, real or artificial, in the opposite direction.

Jillian Segal's position is completely untenable.

She has strong links to Israel, a country committing genocide.

Q: how on earth is it legitimate to call this a ‘peace proposal’?

Israel has never resiled from its genocidal intentions. This can at best be called a ceasefire. It’s the next phase of the genocide, where the world gives itself permission to look the other way, again.

I grew up calling them ‘topknot pigeons’; apparently they’re more commonly called ‘crested pigeons’ (Ocyphaps lophotes). My favourite is the males’ OTT pompous courtship displays, but this doofus down the street was a pretty entertaining sight this morning 😁

This should no longer be a controversial take. If you asked all the ‘manly-man’ right wingers what they’d do if someone killed/maimed their kids, and then stole their house and land they’d say “I’d do anything to protect my family”. We would all be Hamas. Anyone saying otherwise is a liar.

Distressed to hear Madeleine Habib’s boat has been intercepted & boarded by IDF. Yet another breach of int law by Israel. I’m in Canberra & liaising now with the PM’s office. Israel must immediately release all on board including our brave Tasmanian Madeleine #auspol #politas

In the last hour, the brave humanitarians aboard the Freedom Flotilla, which includes at least one Australian, Madeleine Habib, have reported being surrounded and intercepted by the Israeli military in international waters.

This is direct contravention of international law.

I just found out that #Arachtober is a thing- happily during that time of year when all our spiders are coming out of their winter hibernation ☺️

This pretty little spider (~4-5mm) was on the underside of a leaf on one of our Panama berry trees. She’s a Poecilopachys australasia (per iNaturalist).

"On this basis, the technocratic body to be chaired by Trump, but likely to be dominated by Blair with some figures from the Palestinian diaspora, could derive its legitimacy through its effectiveness." Are you kidding me? This is insane.
n this basis, the technocratic body to be chaired by Trump, but likely to be dominated by Blair with some figures from the Palestinian diaspora, could derive its legitimacy through its effectiveness.

Blair will be working against the destabilising backdrop of imminent elections in both Israel and Palestine. One of the body’s first tasks will be to build a relationship with Palestinian politics. Blair has close relations with the elites of the Middle East but none with the street, and he may leave to others such as Egypt the task of mediating an intra-Palestinian dialogue on Palestinian unity, a dialogue led by China, that the ageing and authoritarian PA president has sought to sabotage.

Independent Senator David Pocock and Labor's Penny Wong clashed in Senate estimates yesterday over whether the Parliamentary Sports Club could be considered a lobby group, as reported in Crikey last week. The club is registered as such, and lists Responsible Wagering Australia as one of its clients.

David Pocock asks Don Farrell some serious questions about why the govt has not implemented an important recommendation from the #RobodebtRC.
Farrell caught playing on his phone, not even paying attention.🙄 Pocock hasn’t the patience to try again & moves on. #Estimates

Blows my mind that we hear how the ATO hounds small business owners practically to the grave, while big miners pay almost no tax and get government welfare the minute their profits are threatened. If the copper mine isn’t profitable, surely it ‘doesn’t have what it takes’ and they should shutter it?

The NDIA seems to confuse “aren't incurred solely and directly because of a person's disability support needs” with ‘must not conceivably be useful to someone without a disability’. Confusion is the wrong term for it, of course. It’s been explained to them many times. It’s merely a poor excuse.
Should the NDIS fund kitchen items? In some cases, advocates say yes
A year after a controversial NDIS change, advocates are growing increasingly concerned that "counterintuitive" and "nonsensical" funding decisions are reducing participant independence.
