Nothing very exciting, but in primary we did both "This Little Light of Mine" and "I'm Gonna Live So God Can Use Me."

Where did you get this list off particular temples? San Diego is closed for renovations and Cape Town isn't even built. Seems like the source for these might not be well informed.

Not sure but this might be heresy.

There's a new couch in the church foyer and it's not even flower print. Are we entering a new era?
The foyer of an LDS church. Purplish industrial carpet, white painted brick walls, and a solid colored dark blue couch.

Bad source citation here though. The double quotation marks are very confusing. I would advise my students to rewrite this to make it clearer who the ideas belong to.

If there is one? But that's only the first half of the complaints. I'm more talking about the second half: Kuang doesn't trust her readers and constantly hits you with message, message, message at the expense of story. I found the last 1/3 of Babel unreadable for this reason.

I felt torn about adding this book to my TBR. On the one hand, the concept is right up my alley. On the other hand, I have had serious issues with every Kuang book I've read. Sounds like the issues have gotten worse, which is sad because PhD students visit Hell is such an awesome premise.

This morning I have a (rather long) review of Katabasis up at @nerdsofafeather.bsky.social. In many ways, it’s a book quite similar to Babel, but those differences (and degrees) really tell, and turn things that worked for me in one really much less successful in the other. You can read it here.

One of my favorite things about teaching at BYU is the chance to open class with a blessing on both learners and teachers.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply! So many people really don't get just how different the needs of gifted kids are from average readers. It's something that's hard to understand until you experience it yourself.

Inspired by a recent John Scalzi post against recommending old books, some thoughts on gifted readers and the canon.

This is so lame. Like not life-changing, but kinda lose faith in humanity a bit lame.

Excited to be presenting but a bit intimidated by the level of Tolkien knowledge on the program. I'm gonna learn a lot!
