Today, @lizhare.bsky.social gave a spectacular talk at the Big Team Science Conf about the peer review software resources developed by @ropensci.org and how she learned about them during the Champions program.

The slide with the unexpected benefits is my favorite part of the entire presentation!
Unexpected Benefits

Learn new packages and functions,
Learn clearer and more efficient approaches you can use in your own work,
Enjoy the puzzle of figuring out and following the authors' work,
Introduction to object-oriented data structures helped in a future project,
Ways of collaborating apply to private consulting project.

First, congratulations Yani! Second, if you want to know how to verbally describe data visualizations well, use this as an example.

1/2 I have been doing events for the last 32 years. In that time, I have registered 496 events, of which 267 (53.8%) have been online. I have six different roles. "Speaker" is the most frequent, with 19 participations as a keynote speaker.
Line graph showing total events by year from 1993 to 2025. The trend begins at approximately 2 events in 1993, remains relatively flat with minor fluctuations between 2-8 events through 2015, then shows dramatic growth starting in 2016. Events increase from about 12 in 2016 to a peak of 61 events in 2022, with some volatility including a notable dip to 19 events in 2018. After the 2022 peak, there is a sharp decline to 23 events by 2025, even this can increase as the year is still going. Horizontal bar chart showing total events by role. Speaker has the highest count at approximately 219 events, followed by Teacher with about 159 events, and Organizer with 89 events. Chair and Teacher Assistant each have significantly fewer events at approximately 15 events each, while Jury has the lowest count with 1 event.

It’s so frustrating when white ppl have the audacity to speak on the black lives when this country makes it so difficult just to live while black.
As a WW I've always tried to listen to people but in the last five years it's become clear that we need to shut up and listen rather than being the gratitude police. And as a blind person, I know the gratitude police very well.
That's exactly it. Evaluating someone else's life is super disrespectful and error-prone. We have know idea what others have had to endure or fight against.
I don't watch TV often but Joy is great and assholes need to stay in their lane.
Come joimn Steffi LaZerte & I to chat about code review at rOpenSci 's Coworking call in a month! If you're transitioning to open science projects, we'll introduce how teams work together. Also, please come along if you have tips/experience to share. https://ropensci.org/events/coworking-2025-11/

I am begging anyone (but particularly blue wave type liberals) to read literally any history before saying something like "the reason that [bad thing] happened to [marginalized group] is that they didn't fight back."

This is such a great excuse for conferences not being accessible. They don't pay anyone to work on accessibility and they make it impossible to get anything done. they don't see disabled people in their field because we can't attend, so they keep not seeing disabled people in their field.
Thank you for including alt text so I have the full context. these are wild times.
Wow. Not acceptable.
Next Monday at 12:30 EDT. I'll be talking with @yabellini.bsky.social at the Big Team Science Conference. We'll be talking about @ropensci.bsky.social 's community and resources for working together on R code. https://bigteamscienceconference.github.io

The Pac-Man Rule should be adopted at all conferences and meetups - it's so much more welcoming!

Also an excellent use of a pie chart! 📊

Let's please not forget that all this made up science about autism is founded on ableism and hate, not disability rights and acceptance.

being trans is not a negative outcome and neither is being autistic
We'll be talking about code review at ropensci.bsky.social& the resources and community there.. These resources are useful even if you're on a little team :)

The character limit here is killing me-- I'm out of practice 2/2
