People across Southern California came out to eat cake this weekend… 483 different cakes to be exact. A touring picnic took over a Santa Monica park with one simple rule…bring a cake.

True that. I'm a baker. If the recipe calls for unsalted butter and you don't have any, just don't add the salt. If the recipe calls for salted butter, and you only have unsalted, add salt. Easy peasy!

@birdsoftheworld.bsky.social (the Cornell Lab of Ornithology) has an amazing app, BirdCast, which tracks the movement of migratory birds. It's incredible to watch what's happening as the seasons change. 2.7 million birds flew over my upstate New York county last night! They list the species, too.

Phew! @seymoursimon.bsky.social and I just played a fiercely contested #Scrabble game. I drew both Q & Z to start and had 111 points after the first two turns. He battled back, playing a 7-letter word for 77 points! It was nip and tuck to the end. One of the best games we've ever played, for sure.

Deadheading (cutting off fading blooms just above the node) will keep new blooms coming. I catch the petals in a basket and dry for potpourri baskets. Keep the blades of your pruner sharp and disinfect/clean with rubbing alcohol. Voilà! Your mum's roses will continue to thrive. 🌹❤️

This is lovely. My grandfather was a gardener and loved his roses. He showed me the ropes as a young child, starting me on a lifetime as a gardener. Others have already given this advice, and it's really all you need to know.
