Kids contain multitudes! I was just thinking about this yesterday when I came across some of the few books I still have from childhood: a tv tie-in edition and a science book. Both of these were my favourites. It’s not just fiction that captures the imagination.
Two battered paperbacks. One is the TV tie-in for the 1980s Anne of Green Gables, the other is the Pocket Book of Astronomy by James Muirden. Both are incredibly well-read and tatty.

Many books piled upon an armchair. Nearly all of them on the top layer are either books written by cyclists or books about cycling. There’s an entire pile of books with yellow spines because that’s what publishers do when they have a book about the Tour (including the one we published…)

Sorry to the person that wrote this but if you think 'rights, metadata and workflows' are 'drudge work' and that they don't matter, wait and see what happens when you leave them to AI and they stop working correctly.
A screenshot from an opinion piece in The Bookseller today that says 'Algorithms will crunch ever more historic sales data to predict what "works", which risks leading to more of the same. But it also frees publishers from drudge-work - automating rights, metadata and workflows - so they can get back to doing what matters: building lists, spotting talen and connecting authors with readers.'

I sat on St Pancras station concourse before I got on Eurostar to go to the Grand Depart in Lille and my priority was getting my pre-order in for this rather than looking for my mum, so I’m going to celebrate it. 💚
The slipcase front over of The Cav Book, 2006-2024, from the Cycling Almanack. It shows Mark Cavendish in sepia winning the World Championship. It’s the spine! The spine is green and says the title, plus the Three Legs of Mann and the Road Boom colophon (yes I work in publishing so you get fancy terminology). The front cover! The whole book is the proper green for the Green Jersey not the green it’s been changed to recently, as it should be. Edited by Ian Cleverley. ‘A comprehensive record of Sir Mark Cavendish’s road career. All 165 victories, start to finish.’

Follow up. Why will you only let me use CONCAT with two values? What kind of useless spreadsheet facsimile are you? Excel would never. Why is it a completely separate formula to combine multiple strings?
An error message in Google sheets with the statement 'Wrong number of arguments to CONCAT. Expected 2 arguments, but got 3 arguments.'

A day of mixed blessings.

Visited the Atomium, saw an unexpected light show.

Lost my bank card.

Had my first proper meal in three days.
