Data are based on after-tax wage growth from Bank of America aggregated consumer deposit data (3-month moving average, year-over-year, seasonally adjusted).

Vertical axis: Year-over-year wage growth rate (ranging from –2% to +8%).

Horizontal axis: Time period from January 2023 to September 2025.

Lines by income tercile:
Lower-income households (blue): Start near 6% in early 2023, decline steadily through 2023–2024 to ~1%, with minor rebounds around mid-2024 and mid-2025, ending at 1.4% YoY in September 2025.

Middle-income households (red): Begin around 4%, decline below 2% by mid-2023, fluctuate between 1–3% from 2024 onward, finishing near 2.5–3% in September 2025.

Higher-income households (orange): Start near 1–2% in early 2023, dip below 0% mid-2023, then steadily rise through 2024–2025, reaching 4.0% YoY in September 2025.
