Fabulous turnout to hear our very own Kate Walchester discuss travel writing with Michael Palin as part of the Smithdown Litfest. Your correspondent might have not picked the best spot for paparazzi images of our two celebrities, but is very much enjoying hearing tales of travel 🫣🥴
Interior of Ullet Road Unitarian Church, off Smithdown Road, Liverpool, with the backs of people crammed into pews to listen to Michael Palin reminisce with Kate Walchester about his travels and promote his new book on Venezuela.

Forever chemicals don’t just come from today’s industry. Patrick Byrne’s research shows hidden sources like old landfills + industrial sites are still leaking PFAS into our rivers. A real reminder that past pollution is today’s problem — and action can’t wait.

How I tracked the biggest hidden sources of forever chemical pollution in our rivers – new study
New research shows that the biggest sources of forever chemicals are rooted in the past – old landfills, waste sites or historic industrial use.
