Today was an emotional, community-embracing, hard-road-ahead facing, goodbye for now. Rather than my usual turn to toxic positivity, I am taking the evening to sit with the sad parting with the NEH that was. This is the song that has been my warm today. 😢 youtu.be/X_qjhckmLTQ?...

Digital humanities, as a field, wouldn't exist without your creativity, stewardship, perseverance, and patience, @brettbobley.bsky.social thank you for staying with the trouble & for making my work and the work of so many others possible. #thanksbrett

Great panel to kick off the day @ #ach2025 "When we are in a position to rebuild..." Celebrating the opportunities created through @neh-odh.bsky.social and @nehgov.bsky.social challenge grants to improve the lives of students across California. Such a loss to see funding cut.

This afternoon, three members of NHA's executive committee, @acls1919.bsky.social, @historians.org, and @modernlanguage.bsky.social, filed a lawsuit seeking to reverse recent actions that threaten to devastate the National Endowment for the Humanities.

For the Monday morning crowd: a 🧵on how to appeal your NEH grant termination. Please share with NEH grantees.

I also summarized in a shareable google doc, available here: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Congratulations! I'm so glad it arrived. Glad to finally have your wonderful chapter out in the world where it can be read and appreciated. Thank you for being such a generous contributor and collaborator. #feministdh

So insulting to the diligent employees, reviewers, & applicants. That second paragraph alone suggests prior awards weren’t merit-based & erodes any confidence I might have that future awards will be merit-based. Phrases like “extreme ideologies based upon race or gender” are racist & misogynistic.

Exactly two weeks after abolishing the positions of 116 #NEH dedicated civil servants, the agency releases a statement that is an utter insult to the ethical guidelines and regulations to which we staff, as well as our panelists and applicants, have *always* rigorously adhered. #humanities
Opening of a press release from the National Endowment for the Humanities dated April 24, 2025, that reads "In recent weeks the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has taken several internal operational steps to improve efficiency, eliminate offices that are not essential to fulfilling its statutory requirements, and to return to being a responsible steward of taxpayer funds."

I ran grant programs at @nehgov.bsky.social for over a decade. With colleagues, oversaw review of thousands of grant applications. Witnessed care & thoughtfulness of hundreds of reviewers. This statement is insulting to all of them. Whoever wrote it should be ashamed.
